US Representative, jurist, lawyer In 1826 Meriwether graduated from the University of Georgia in Athens with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He then studied law, passed the state bar and began practicing law in Eatonton, GA. Between the years of 1831 - 1836 he served in the Georgia House of Representatives, representing Clark County. In 1838 he was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives, representing Clark County. He was a delegate to the State internal improvement convention at Eatonton, GA in 1839. In 1840 he was was elected as a Whig Representative from Georgia to the 27th US Congress and served one term between March 4, 1841 - March 3, 1843. He returned to the Georgia House of Representatives in 1843. From 1845 to 1849 he served as a judge of the Superior Court for the Eatonton (Ocmulgee) district. Returned to the Georgia House of Representatives in 1851 and in 1852 served as a speaker in the Georgia House of Representatives.
