Francis Arthur Marsden a soldier and survivor of the Boar war. Resided at 31 Deightonby St, Thurnscoe East. Son of Mary Ann Marsden from Worksop. He Enlisted into the Derby Regiment in 1898 aged 18. He entered the Boar War in Malta in 1899, and also served in Hong Kong and Singapore 1902. Francis married Elizabeth Grainger 1908 and had twin boys Cyril & Leslie 1909. In 1914 he was mobilised and sent to France where he sustained 30% of his injuries and came home in 1915. He had another son Frank in 1915 before he died in 1928 at the age of 48 and was Interred 29th December 1928 in Thurnscoe Cemetery. His son Leslie Marsden was killed in 1943 in WWII and is buried in Burma Thanbyuzayat War Cemetery Plot B6. J. 10. Leslie's name is on the Thurnscoe war memorial, and served as 1811477 Gunner Leslie Marsden in the 3 H.A.A. Regt. Royal Artillary and died age 34. Husband of Ada Marsden.
