VERONA – Russell C. Mani, age 83, of Verona died on Thursday, June 24, 1999 at a Madison hospital. He was born on November 24, 1915 in Dayton, Wisconsin, the son of Christian Mani and Lottie Beckwith-Johnson. Russell was married on February 6, 1937 in Freeport, Illinois to the former Irene Gertrude Gust. He was a member of the Salem United Church of Christ in Verona, a former member of the Verona Square Dance Club, and bowled with the Mt. Horeb Senior Citizens. Survivors include his wife, Irene; a daughter, Muriel "Marji" (James) Stephens of Verona; a granddaughter, Jennifer Stephens of Middleton; three great-grandchildren, Peace Stephens, and Anastasia and Lyle "Trey" Bedward; a brother, Archie (Elaine) Mani of Madison; two sisters, Edna (Ernest) Aeschlimann of Middleton, and June Barret of Madison; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Russell was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Marshall, and Kenneth; and three sisters, Myrtle Bennett, Doris Olson, and Kathryn Goth. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 26, 1999 at Salem United Church of Christ In Verona, with Rev. Mark Yurs officiating. Burial will be at the Verona Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 25, 1999 at the ELLESTAD FUNERAL HOME, 500 N. 8th Street, Mt. Horeb. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to HospiceCare or the Salem United Church of Christ, Verona.
