Chris Maggs

Alice "Chris" Maggs, age 78, passed away Sunday (Sept. 21) at her home in Congress. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday (Sept. 27) at 1 p.m. at Good Shepherd of the Desert Catholic Church in Congress with Fr. George Highberger as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Congress Cemetery.

Chris was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pa., and attended schools there. She married Joseph Maggs in 1946 and they made their home in Pittsburgh, later moving to Boston. Joseph was employed as a district representative for Caterpillar Co. and they lived in various locations in the eastern United States. Eventually they made their way west and following their retirement they settling in Peoria, Ariz.

Following Joseph's passing in 1989, Chris moved to Congress to be near family. She attended Good Shepherd of the Desert Catholic Church in Congress and was a member of the Wickenburg Art Club as well as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 79 in Yarnell. She loved to play cards and was a very talented artist as well as an avid football fan.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph, May 11, 1998; a son William Maggs, August 20, 2003; and a grandson Donald Joseph Maggs, Sept. 3, 1999. Chris is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Rusty and Denise Maggs of Congress, Thomas and Darla Maggs of Mesa, daughter Laurie Maggs of Congress, daughter and son-in-law Mary Jo and Joe Soto of Phoenix, nephew Donald J. Maggs, Jr. of Albuquerque, N.M.; and sister Mary Lou Skiffington of Pennsylvania, as well as 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and her beloved pet poodle "Snoopy."

Family suggests memorial contributions in memory of Chris be made to Wickenburg Humane Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home & Crematory.
