Hazel Fern Maddick, daughter of James A. & Mabel Turner Kale, passed away Thursday morning, April 22 at the Kanawha Comm. Home, where she had been a resident since Apr. 14. She was born June 2, 1896 at Anita Iowa and was 85 years, nine months and 18 days of age at the time of her death.
She attended the rural schools near Winterset. She was married to James Ford Maddick on Dec. 17,1913 in Des Moines and moved to Kanawha in 1923. In 1947, they moved to Pennington Mn and ran the Pennington Store and Kitchi Landing Resort. Moving back to Kanawha in 1958. She operated a maternity home in Kanawha for many years. She was a member and Past Noble Grand of the Rebekah Lodge and was also a member of the Eastern Star, serving in the appointive office of Ruth. She was baptized & confirmed in the Christian Faith and while living in Kanawha a member of the Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband James Ford Maddick; three daughters; Vivian Wicks and her husband Herbert, Iliah Sorenson, Vera Abbas and her husband Clarence Abbas. All of Kanawha. Seven grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one great great grandaughter; one sister Lena Beeson of Polk City and many relatives and friends
She was preceded in death by her parents, twin daughters, Darline & Arline; one son-in-law, Fred Loeffler and one grandson; Jackie Loeffler
