Rosa Ellen Cook Macy, eldest child of Harmon and Lucinda Cook Macy,
was born in the Bear Creek neighborhood, near Earlham, IA on April 1, 1863 and departed this life on December 31, 1949 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Boyd Tyer of Waukee, IA at the age of 86 years 8 months and 20 days. She was one of a family of 7 children.
At the age of 8 with her parents and a younger brother and sister, the family moved to Wiscotta where their father worked in the woolen mills. In 1872 they moved to Lyon County in Northwestern Iowa where Rosa went to school and attnded meeting at the Little Friends Meeting known as Dale Church. At the age of 17 she went with the family to Florida where they expected to make their home, but owing to sickness in the family and death of the mother, Lucinda, they returned to Iowa after only a few months.
On May 4, 1886, she was unitede in marriage to Joseph Hooker Macy of Ealham. To this union was born 9 chi8ldrne, 3 sons, Aaron (Edna)of Burnt Woods, Oregon, Charle (Emma) of Torington, Wyoming and Philip (Leona) of VanCouver Washington and 6 daughters, Mrs. Dora Hougham (Cecil) of Booneville, Iowa, Mrs. Bertha Rush (Lee) of West Des Moines, Iowa, Mrs Jo Minor (BoB) of Los Angelos, California, Mrs. Edith Tyer(Boyd), of Waukee, Iowa and Rose Rippey of Los Angelos, California. Daughter Mrs. Mary Landis (Melvin) proceded her in death 9 1/2 years ago. She is survived by one sister, Mrs Alva Carey of Earlham, her children, grandchildren, great grand children, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
She was a dewout follower of her Master and was ready to testify for Him. She was a birthright member of the Friends Church and remained faithful through her life.
Funeral services conduced at Earlham Friends Church and buriel in Bear Creek Cemetery. Officiating at the service was Rev. Zerry Hougham and A.W. Hadley.
