COOLIDGE - Ponce D. Long, 80, of Coolidge died Nov. 28, 2006 at Desert Pavilion in Casa Grande.Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Monday at Simes Mortuaries Coolidge Chapel, with the funeral following at 9. Burial with military honors will be in National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, in Phoenix.
Mr. Long was born Dec. 21, 1925 in Paducah, Texas, to William A. and Samantha N. (Miller) Long.
He served in the European Theater of World War II with the Army's 4th Armored Division and was a corporal and acting sergeant. He received two Bronze Stars and the Presidential Citation. He was active in Veterans of Foreign Wars, was a past commander of American Legion Post 54 and member of Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge, a 4th Armored Division group and past chef de gare of the Forty & Eight.
He lived in Arizona for 34 years and was a heavy-equipment mechanic for the Case dealer in Coolidge. He was outgoing, active in civic matters and loved fishing, hunting, collecting trains and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include a son, David W. Long of Coolidge; two daughters, Tina Ceniseros of Coolidge and Cathy Mejia of Casa Grande; two stepsons, Jim Long of Centralia, Wash., and Jerry Blalock of Bakersfield, Calif.; a stepdaughter, LaDonna Rodriguez of Coolidge; two sisters, Ethel Bingham of Fresno, Calif., and Lois Brietkopf of Bullhead City; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 26 years, Wanda; a brother, James L.; a sister, Nell Rose Bagley; and a stepson, Bobby lalock.
