John P. Locke, 86, passed away on June 24, 2015 at Scottish Rite Park Health Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

John was born on May 26, 1929 to Stanley and Marian (Miller) Locke. He graduated from Riverside High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and attended the University of Wisconsin for two years. He graduated from the University of Illinois School of Architecture, where he met the love of his life. John and Joanne were married in June 1953.

After serving two years in the Air Force, they returned to Madison, Wisconsin where he was employed with the John Flad architecture firm. In 1957 they moved to Des Moines where he joined Chick Herbert at Karl Keffer & Associates, which later became Herbert Lewis Kruse Blunck. He served on the National American Institute of Architects Design Committee. With his commitment to design, it was an honor for him to serve on the Committee and to be selected to serve on the jury for the National AIA Design Awards. He was admired by his co-workers and was a mentor to many.

After retiring from a successful career in 1995, John and Joanne divided their time between Des Moines, Michigan, and Arizona. He enjoyed planning trips, hiking, canoeing, cross country skiing, bicycling, and numerous wood working projects, including an addition to the cabin in Michigan. Their cabin is a favorite place for friends and family to gather and it has provided many memorable moments.

John was a member of Central Presbyterian Church for 58 years. He served as an elder and was on various committees.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on June 27, 2015 at Central Presbyterian Church.
