Mary Neddie Lewis died October 17, 2001 in a local hospital after a lengthy illness. Born September 17, 1918 in Detroit, Michigan, she had lived in Jacksonville since 1933 and was a member of St. Johns Cathedral. Ms. Lewis was an employee of French Novelty in Downtown for 20 years and retired from General Electric after 30 years of service. She was a member of the St. Lukes Hospital Auxiliary where she was honored for 3600 hours of volunteer work, the Molaka Club and the Salaam Club.

She is survived by two brothers, Moses Lewis and Esse Lewis (Mary), two sisters-in-law, Mary K. Lewis and Betty Jean S. Lewis, six nieces, five nephews and 10 great-nieces and nephews who were the love of her life. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 20, 2001 in St. Johns Cathedral with The Very Reverend Edward H. Harrison, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials my be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, Dreams Come True or the charity of your choice.
