David & Phebe (Mallett) Leavitt left Fairfield County, Connecticut and settled in Danube, Herkimer County, New York by 1825.
David Leavitt and his wife owned and resided in the former home of Gen. Nicholas Herkimer from 1825 to 1831.

August 9, 1825: Ann Leverse sold 236 acres including "a large brick dwelling house" to David Leavitt for $4000 - Herkimer Co. Deeds Vol 17, p. 499

1830 Federal Census: Danube, Herkimer, NY
David Levill [Levitt] listed as head of house- hold of 14 including male 70+ & female 70+ (parents: Josiah Gold Leavitt and Sarah Sherwood Leavitt)

September 3, 1831 David Leavitt dies. His widow, Phebe, sells 210 acres of the estate to Daniel Connor.

In the spring of 1834 Phebe & her children leave Herkimer Co. with party of settlers for Kent Co., Michigan defaulting on the mortgage. September 2, 1834, sold, at public auction; to Daniel Connor, for $2700, ..."the mortgaged property of David Leavitt deceased...known as the Herkimer place". Herkimer Co. Deeds Vol 30, p. 324-25


David & Phebe had 7 children:

*David Don F. Leavitt (1817-1831)
*Phebe Ann (Leavitt) Guild (1819-1853)
*Sarah Ann (Leavitt) Tirrell (1821-1845)
*Polly Ann (Leavitt) Darling (1822-1856)
*George M. O. Leavitt (1825-1913)
