Major League Baseball Player. Nicknamed "Chief", for his Native American ancestry, he was an left fielder making his debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers (1938-39), with the Brooklyn Dodgers on April 19, 1938. For five seasons, he played St. Louis Cardinals (1940), Cincinnati Reds (1941) and Philadelphia Phillies (1942). He concluded his career with a record of 515 hits, 238 runs scored, 36 home runs, 260 runs batted in and a .279 batting average. He died of natural causes at age 97.
