Sioux Falls- Alfred A. "Al" Koltze, 94, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, July 19, 2006.

Alfred A. "Al" Koltze, son of Henry C. and Anna M. (Richter) Koltze, was born August 20, 1911 about five miles Northwest of Rock Valley, IA in Sioux Valley Township. At the age of six, the family moved to Minneota, MN where Alfred grew up and was educated.

On March 6, 1942, Al entered the US Army serving during World War II. He served on the 889th Ambulance Motor Corps and the 151st Medical Battalion in the jungles of Burma. He was honorably discharged on October 31, 1945.

He returned to Worthington, MN where he began working as a meat cutter at Schaefer's Meat Market.

Al was united in marriage with Margaret Rose "Peg" Andrews on October 18, 1948 at Worthington, MN. Following their marriage, they moved to Sioux Falls where he began working at John Morrell & Co. retiring in 1976. His wife, Margaret "Peg" Koltze died April 5, 2005.

Grateful for having shared his life are his two daughters, Ann Boehrns and her husband, Lyle, Sioux Falls, and Mary Koltze and her husband, Harvey Nyberg, Denver, CO; three sons, Jim Koltze, Klamath Falls, OR, Vince Koltze and his wife, Sandy, Sioux Falls and J.R. Koltze, Denver, CO; five grandchildren, Lynn Gillette, Julie McGraw, Jason Boehrns, Amanda Bultje and Alex Koltze, eight great-grandchildren, Jordan and Jared Hermanson, Katie and Easton Gillette, Ireland McGraw, Stella and Hoyt Bultje, and Madeline Boehrns; and one sister, Agnes Fonteyn, Minneota, MN

In addition to his wife, Peg, he was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and Fred Koltze; five sisters, Lucy Morris, Julia Baert, Maggie Baert, Kathryn Thanghe and sister, Sadie Hammerlinck.

Interment at St. Michael Cemetery, Sioux Falls.
