Hershel R. Knuckles, 75, of Poplar Bluff died Thursday, March 11, 2004, at his residence. His death was sudden and unexpected.

Mr. Knuckles was born June 23, 1928, in Bernie and was of the Baptist faith. He was a retired maintenance engineer for the Diagnostic Center in Poplar Bluff. He was a veteran of the United States Army and enjoyed fishing, gardening and watching stock car racing.

On July 8, 1950, he married Elaine Rushin at Corning, Ark. She survives.

Other survivors include three sons, Mark Alan Knuckles and wife, Debbie Roberts, Hershel "Butch" Knuckles, and Joe Knuckles and wife, Karen, all of Poplar Bluff; two sisters, Jerlean Montgomery of Poplar Bluff and Eunice Edmond of Fredericktown; one brother, Mitt Knuckles of House Springs; nine grandchildren, Mark A. Knuckles Jr., Jason Knuckles, Jake Knuckles, Ryan Knuckles, Libby Knuckles, Katy Knuckles, Shawn Knuckles, Courtney Knuckles and Kellie Jo Knuckles; and three great-grandchildren, Ben Knuckles, Emily Knuckles, and Megan Knuckles, all of Poplar Bluff.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas J. and Bessie (Sneed) Knuckles; and three brothers, Russell Knuckles, Thomas Knuckles and Nolan Knuckles.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral chapel with the Rev. Vernon Kneir officiating. Burial will be in the Cochran Cemetery.
