Birth: Dec. 31, 1879
Death: Apr. 16, 1899

Mrs. Lucy Johnson wife of Fred Johnson, committed suicide by hanging herself yesterday at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel Hammel, in Stockwell. The act was committed about 10 o’clock, but the body of the unfortunate young woman was not discovered until after 11 o’clock. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson were married about a year ago and soon afterward moved to Terre Haute. She was visiting her parents when she ended her life in this most startling and inexplicable manner. She was 19 years of age and prepossessing in appearance. Her home life was happy and no cause could be assigned yesterday for her rash act. Yesterday morning she assisted her sister in getting breakfast and was apparently happy, laughing, chatting and singing as she went about her work. Her aged mother was quite ill in the house at the time. After breakfast she went to her room up stairs, ostensibly to prepare for church.
