Leona L. Jay, 89, of Des Moines, formerly of Ottumwa, died Feb. 10, 2012, at Trinity Center at Luther Park in Des Moines.

Leona was born Sept. 9, 1922, to Walter and Olive Mae(Parsons)Buck in Brooklyn. In December 1940 she married Robert Edward Jay. She had lived in Ottumwa, Winterset and Des Moines. Leona worked in the cosmetics department of Younkers for many years.

Memberships included the First Christian Church of Ottumwa and Winterset, Grand Lodge Lady Auxiliary and Eastern Star. Leona taught crafts at nursing homes and volunteered to staff hospital gift shops. She enjoyed coordinating the annual Eastern Star garage sale.

Survivors include her daughter, Karen "Sue"(Richard)Timeon of Des Moines; grandson, Kim Day of Winterset; brother, Marvin(Harriett)Buck of Ankeny and four nieces and nephews.

Leona was preceded in death by her husband; sister, Letha Blair; brother, Lee Buck; and sister-in-law, Jean Buck.

A graveside service will be held 1 pm today at Masonic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Iowa Health Hospice, Urbandale, Iowa.
