John was the second of seven children born to Thomas and Margery (Easton) Ingersoll. John was born in England and immigrated to America (Salem, Mass.), at the age of 14, with his older brother, Richard. He later moved to Hartford, Conn. He was married to: (1) Dorothy (Lord) in 1651 and they had three daughters: Hannah, Dorothy and Margery 'Mary'. He next married (2) Abigail (Bascom) in 1657 and they had five children: Abigail, Sarah, Abijah, Hester and Thomas. Later he married (3) Mary (Hunt) in 1668 and they had seven children: John, Abel, Ebenezer, Joseph, Mary, Benjamin and Jonathan.
∼John Ingersoll died in Westfield, September 3, 1684 (Westfield Records),in the seventieth year of his age, and his grave may be found in the old Westfield cemetery.
