Earl Clyde Hughes was born February 5, 1897, to Edward and Hattie Hauffman Hughes in Franklin, Nebraska. He passed away at the Franklin County Memorial Hospital on May 27, 1977, at the age of 80 years, following a lingering illness.
On November 29, 1919, Earl was united in marriage to Francis Strayer and to this union eleven children were born.
Earl served his country for two years in World War I. He made his home in Franklin County all his life.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Leroy in infancy in 1920; two daughters, Doris at the age of 31 and Valjean at the age of 11.
Earl is survived by his loving wife Frances; six daughters and sons-in-law, Viola & Gordon Kershner, Franklin; Erla & Sid Bradshaw, Franklin; Nette & Earl Tolle, Litchfield; Wilma & Jim Deloa, Omaha; Kay & Alden Bunger, Upland and Margaret and Charlie Clark, Kearney; two sons and daughters-in-law, Don & Mardel Hughes, Kearney and Richard & Sharon Hughes, Kansas City, Kansas; 25 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; nephews, Ivan & Frances Hughes, Mankato, Kansas; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 29, 1977, 3:00 p.m. at the Hutchins Funeral Home, Franklin, with Rev. Norman Schafer, officiating.
Mrs. Alma Huisman was the organist and Minnie and Tim Kolb provided music.
Casket bearers were Robert Brophy, Gerald Kershner, Alan Bunger, Randy Eddy, Mark Bradshaw, and Earl Lyon. Honorary casket bearers were Donald Tolle, Ivan Hughes, Archie Platt, Ronald Tolle, Virgil Rinehart, and Lloyd Bradshaw.
Interment was in the Greenwood Cemetery, Franklin with Military graveside services conducted by the Franklin Anno Sanger Legion Post.
Arrangements by Hutchins Funeral Home, Franklin.
