William Henry Huddleston III, age 86, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2015 in Murfreesboro, TN. He was a native and life long resident of Rutherford County. Henry graduated from Castle Heights Military Academy in 1946 and Yale University in 1950. He was a licensed general contractor, registered land surveyor and registered engineer in the State of Tennessee. He operated numerous businesses including Smith & Huddleston, Huddleston Engineering and Huddleston-Corlew. He concluded his career with Huddleston-Steele Engineering. Henry took part in many community activities including the Murfreesboro Federal Savings & Loan Board, Chairman of Cavalry Banking, Chairman of Rutherford Hospital, Chairman of Christy-Houston Foundation, Chairman of Rutherford County Public Building Authority, President of Murfreesboro Exchange Club, President of Stones River Country Club and President of Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce. He was awarded the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce Business Legend of the Year in 1996. He was the City Engineer for the City of Murfreesboro and a Member of the First United Methodist Church.
Henry was preceded in death by his wife, Kay Candler Huddleston, parents, William Henry Huddleston Jr. and Martha Cockrill Huddleston and sister, Martha Huddleston Corlew. He is survived by his sons, William H (Laurie) Huddleston IV and Benjamin C (Susana) Huddleston, daughter, Ellen H (Paul) Willson, thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A service for Henry will be on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at First United Methodist Church with Michael O'Bannon officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery with George Huddleston Jr., Henry A Huddleston, W. Kent Coleman, Jeff C. Davis, William S. Jones, Stephen A. Steele and Donald C. Steele serving as pallbearers. The honorary pallbearers will be the past and present directors of the Christy-Houston Foundation and the former directors of Cavalry Banking. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, June 9, 2015 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. and Wednesday, June 10, 2015 from 10:00 A.M. until service time at First United Methodist Church. Please leave condolences at www.jenningsandayers.com. The family would like to thank Family Staffing Solutions, Gentiva Hospice and the Staff at Adams Place.
