Son of Frederick Arthur Hoy and his wife, Jennie Lee (Nash) Hoy. John's birth certificate gives his name as Willie Nash Hoy, no doubt to honor his great-grandfather, William Nash. John never married, and lived in Park Ridge, Illinois for 30 years. Upon retiring, he moved back to Monmouth, where he was the custodian for the First Christian church of Monmouth. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings. Survivors included one nephew and two nieces. He is buried with his parents and brother Ralph at Monmouth cemetery.
