J. Edith Houghton, 93, Mitchellville
J. Edith B. Houghton, 93, of Mitchellville, died of a heart ailment Jan. 9,
1999, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. Services were held Jan. 12 at Hamilton's
Funeral Home, with burial in Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Houghton was born in Bloomfield, Mo., and had lived in Des
Moines most of her life until she moved to Mitchellville four years ago. She was
the owner and operator of a custodial home, retiring in 1971. She was a member
of Marantha Open Bible Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Helen Hannon of Des Moines; a foster
daughter, Peggy Snider of Las Vegas; three sisters, Arlene John, Areierne Cox
and Lillian Denning, all of Des Moines; eight grandchildren; 20
greatgrandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She is buried with her first husband, Victor Emanuel Nelson under the name of Edith B. Nelson.



She was buried on Jan 12, 1999.
