Husband, of 53 years, to Alice (Donnelly) and father of Catherine, Cynthia, Glen, and David. He was a son of Norman R. and Audrey (Parker) Houghton. He was raised in Stoneham, and graduated from Stoneham High School in 1949. He remained buddies, all these years, with several of his classmates.

Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a former member of the Disabled American Veterans.

After his military service, he returned to Stoneham to join his father in working at the family business, Houghton Plumbing and Heating. This business has been in existence since 1886 and operated by the Houghton family for four generations. He faithfully worked with his son, David, until the day he died.

He was a Eagle Scout and during his sons involvement in Scouting, he was an active leader. He built a pond and cultivated numerous flowerbeds around his house.
