Mary is the daughter of James Independence Houghton and Sally Ferris.
She was first married to James Mulholland at a very young age. In the 1860 US census she is married to James and listed as 15 years old. She had 4 children with James yet for reasons unknown by the 1870 census she is married to John H Potter and her 4 young children are living in a household of the last name of Rounds. Mary is living just a few doors down from them. All in Viola, Olmsted, Minnesota. Not sure why her children are living in a different household and why James Mulholland can not be found untill 1895 when he shows back up in Viola, Minnesota.
