The Hollingworths were early settlers of America, coming to Maryland in 1650. They worked their way to Gasconade County, Missouri, USA, by 1840, coming through Ashe County, North Carolina; Clay County, Kentucky, and Morgan County, Indiana.

William Hollingsworth (ca 1770-1843) and his wife, Rhoda (Reed?) (CA 1770-1873) homesteaded 80 acres 16 Dec. 1840 in Sec. 26, Twp. 42, R. 4 and 120 acres 1 March 1841 in Sec. 35, Twp. 42, R. 5. Rhoda is said to have been full-blooded Cherokee Indian. Several of their 12 children either came along with them or came shortly thereafter. Those known were: Isam, wife Nancy; Isaac, wife Polly; James, wife Martha (Patsey) Read; Rhoda, husband William Thomas; Susan, husband Larkin Henson; Charity, husband James Henson; and Mary (Polly), husband William McDaniel.

The change in spelling from Hollingsworth to Hollandsworth occurred after 1840. Some descendants have returned to the original spelling. Most Hollandsworths in Gasconade County are descendants of William and Rhoda, but there is a possibility that some could be descended from William's brother Isaac, who died in Morgan County, Indiana, in 1840.

My notes:

Rhoda is said to be full blood Cherokee, source Gasconade County Historical Society, initial book, compiled for Hollandsworth by Bernice Rose Ketterer.

Rhoda's sister Polly married John Henry Hollandsworth.

Stephen Reid (Who many tried to say was her father) was actually Rhoda's brother and he married Winnifred Hollandsworth.

I believe her father was William (Wiley or Willy) Reid and her mother's name was Frances Rebecca Robins.
