ALICE HOCKING:
Mrs. Alice Hocking, an old resident of Vinegar Hill, died at the home of her son in Scales Mound Friday evening, aged 79 years. Her death was caused by paralysis, with which she was stricken ten days ago. She leaves four sons and two daughters, of whom John H. lives at Scales Mound; Mrs. Jane Perkins at Iron Mountain, Mich.; James, in Dubuque; Joseph at Yellowstone, Lafayette county (Note: this is Wisconsin); Thomas and Mrs. Margaret Walton in Vinegar Hill township. The deceased was a member of the Methodist church and was a woman of admirable qualities. The funeral was held on Monday at 2 o'clock at the Methodist cemetery.
