ELKHART --
Todd Allen Hilligoss, of West Cleveland Avenue in Elkhart, Ind., passed away Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, at 2:14 p.m. at the Osceola (Ind.) Dragway after a motorcycle accident. He was 43.

He was born Dec. 11, 1964, the son of Charles L. and Ramona (Hancock) Hilligoss. He leaves behind his wife and best friend of 11 years, Lisa K. (Banks) Hilligoss. They were married Aug. 16, 1997, in South Bend, Ind. She survives at home.

His family also includes his sister, Toni L. (Rodney) Johnson and his father, Charles L. Hilligoss, both of Anderson, as well as brothers-in-law Jack L. (Julie) Banks, Steven (Susan) Banks and Roger W. (Chris) Banks, all of Mishawaka, Shawn M. (Diane) Banks of Osceola, Michael J. (Sarah) Banks of South Bend; and his father-in-law, Jack (Carol) Banks of Mishawaka.

Also left to cherish his memory are 10 nieces and 12 nephews, all whom saw their Uncle Todd as a role model and mentor.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Marion and Nellie McCord; his mother, Ramona; a favorite aunt, Sylvia Branch; his mother-in-law, Kaye Banks; and his dachshund, King.

The family asks to join them in remembering Todd on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. A tribute service will then follow there at 6:30 p.m. Pastor William Hilligoss, Todd's uncle, will officiate. Cremation will follow the services and Todd will then be laid to rest in East Maplewood Cemetery in Anderson at a later date.

Online condolences can reach the family at www.billingsfuneralhome.com.

Todd worked in shipping and receiving at Gunite Corporation in Elkhart as a forklift operator for nearly 25 years. During his time there he served on the Safety Committee and as the union steward for Teamsters Local 364. He was also the founder of Hoghead Racing Team, which he owned along with his wife and his partners, Mike Snyder and Doug Miller, who were among Todd's best friends.

That business specialized in custom racing and cosmetic body work. He loved everything that had anything to do with racing, including NASCAR, NHRA, BMX, Indy Cars, drag cycles and even snowmobiles.

He spent as much time as he could with his nieces and nephews, and his fondness for racing caught on with all the kids, many of whom were involved in remote-control car racing and BMX bike racing. He took great pleasure in teaching them how to race and in principles in basic mechanics.

Only his love for children rivaled his enthusiasm for racing, and nearly every child in the neighborhood has enjoyed a treat from the ice cream man courtesy of "Uncle Todd." He also loved fishing, camping and spending time with his friends, all of whom will be affected by his untimely loss, as well as his three loyal dachshunds, Priscilla, Sir Duke and Chief Charlie.

Because of Todd's love for children, the family has decided that any memorial contributions be given to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.
