Karen Louise Hawley was born on January 14, 1950, in Glendale, CA, to Margery (Springer) and Harold Rowlett of Holt County, MO. She went home to the Lord on June 16, 2013, after an unexpected illness. Services will be 10 am, Thursday, June 20 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO, followed by a graveside service at 3 pm, at Maitland, Cemetery, Maitland, MO. Visitation will begin at 9 am before the service at the chapel.
Karen was a graduate of Hoover High School in Glendale, CA, class of 1968. She attended Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa, where she met her husband, Michael Hawley. The couple married on June 12, 1971. In 1982 they moved to Independence, MO, with their children. Karen is a lifelong member of The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She is well known by her family and friends for her wonderful cooking skills and also as a talented musician who enjoyed playing the piano for her church. Karen was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Michael Hawley; her children Jared Hawley and Jordan Bass; her grandchildren Jamison and Jaden Bass and Sariah and Elijah Hawley; her sister Frances Manning and husband, Waymond; sister-in-law Rebecca Twombly and husband David; brother-in-law Milo Hawley and wife Tammy and many nieces and nephews.
