Stephen "Gene" Harvey, born Jan. 2, 1932 in St. Charles, IA, son of Stephen R. and Mary Alice (Boll) Harvey died June 1, 2015 at his home in St. Charles, IA of cancer. Gene grew up a farmer's son in Warren & Madison County. He attended Iowa State University before serving in the U.S. Army in Germany subsequently returning to his roots in Iowa.He is survived by his wife Doris (Hanie/Zook) Harvey, children; Stephen Michael "Mike" (Robin) Harvey, Lois (Ken) Stanley, Daniel (Connie) Harvey and Karla (Craig) Dorman. Step-children Douglas Zook, Roxanna (Dennis) McGilvra and Denise (Kim) Jackson. Grandchildren Clint, Erik & Grant Harvey, Brooke Maxwell, Megan Edwards and Shane Stanley; Dennis, Kelly Rudman and Joe Dorman, Jenna, Brynne, Dyonne, and Corrine Harvey. Step-grandchildren Adam McGilvra, Steven and Ryan Jackson. 13 great-grandchildren & 3 step-great grandchildren. Brother Kenneth Harvey, sister Nancy Catchpool, brother-in-law Warren Gideon, Gene was preceded in death by his parents and sister Deana Gideon.Gene was a machinist by trade, with his own welding & fabrication shop at home. He could fix almost anything and if it couldn't be fixed, he rebuilt it. His true passion was baseball, he loved the Cardinals & Cubs and hated the Yankees. He thoroughly enjoyed coaching Little League baseball for 12 years. He was Madison County Democratic Party Chairman for years and life member and past Commander of Madison County VFW Post 8142. He was serving as South Township Trustee at the time of his death. Earning the "Warren Coleman" award, he was Lions' Club past-president who could be counted on to do anything from making potato soup to fixing the kiddie rides for the "Old Settlers' Day" celebration. Gene and Doris enjoyed several years of square dancing, traveling around the U.S. dancing as they went.
