Nellie Happel Marquardt The Sheboygan Press August 24, 1960

Mrs. Nellie Marquardt, 90, 910 7th St., Kiel, died at her home early today. She had been ill for the past six weeks.

One of Kiel's oldest residents, she was born Aug. 28, 1869, on the Grant homestead farm in the Town of Schleswig one mile east of Kiel, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Elisha W. Grant. She received her education in Kiel Public Schools and on Jan. 11, 1888, she was married to Carl Happel. The couple operated the Grant farm until his death in May, 1913. Later she moved to Kiel. On Dec. 11, 1920, she was married to Henry Marquardt. He died in Sept, 1944. She was a member of St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed Church in Kiel and the church Frauen Verein. Her hobby was gardening and braiding rugs.

Survivors are one son, William Happel of Kiel; one grandson, and two great-grandchildren. A son, Walter Happel, also preceded her in death.

Services will be held Friday at St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed Church in Kiel. The Rev. Vernon E. Jaberg, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in Rockville Cemetery.
