Birthplace and village of last residence before immigration unconfirmed. Based on research of other family members, it was likely Kassel, Glückstal District, Odessa, Russia. Today the town is called Velykokomarivka, Odes'ka Oblast, Ukraine.

Married Christina Wanner in about 1891.
