Daughter of George Washington Matthews and Mary Jane Landphere. She married Wilbur Mason Gordon October 15, 1885 in Sioux Falls, Minnehaha County, South Dakota.

"Church Leader Taken by Death"
Mrs. Clara Gordon, 616 Webster street, died Monday evening at Munson hospital following a short illness.
Mrs. Gordon was born at Lundy's Lane, Pennsylvania, August 7th, 1865. When a small child she located in Paw Paw with her parents. She attended the Baptist Seminary in Kalamazoo and also Hillsdale College. Later the family moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. There she was married to Wilbur M. Gordon, October 15th, 1885 and in 1901 they moved to Traverse City, which has since been her home.
She was an active member of the Christian church for over 40 years and until recently was a member of the Traverse City Woman's club and the Ladie's Library.
Mr. Gordon preceded her in death ten years ago.
Left to mourn their loss are two daughters, Mrs. Marjorie Graham and Miss Hazel Gordon, both of this city, and a son Earle Gordon of Sodus; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
The body was taken to the Hibbard Chapel where services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with the Rev. Marshall Rogers officiating. Burial will be made in the family lot in Oakwood cemetery.
