A son of Samuel and Christina Miller Gibbons. After the Gibbons family moved to Rome, Georgia, the war broke out and John S. Gibbons enlisted at Rome, Georgia in Co. A (Rome Guards), 8th Georgia Infantry on May 18, 1861. Died of pneumonia or typhoid, Middletown, Va.
