| Birth: | Aug. 18, 1926 | | Death: | May 7, 2006 |  Leo Burns Gathers, 79, of Sligo, died at 6:10 a.m. Sunday, May 7, 2006, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca. Born Aug. 18, 1926, in Sligo, he was the son of Wray and Blanche Burns Gathers. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army with Co. D., 800th Military Police Battalion. He served in the South Pacific, Mendanao-Leyte Island and Kobe, Japan. Mr. Gathers retired in 1989 from construction. He was a member of Sligo United Methodist Church. Mr. Gathers enjoyed his family, hunting, gardening and picnics with the family. He was married Dec. 2, 1944, to Louise Minnick, who survives. Also surviving are one sister, Deloris Wenners of Sligo; one brother, Connell Gathers and wife, Marilyn, of Sligo; three sisters-in-law, Sally Gathers and Frances Gathers, both of Sligo, and Helen Blauser of Seneca; and a number of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gathers was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Gathers and Melvin Gathers. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, Clarion. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Russell, pastor of the Sligo United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Churchville Cemetery, Curllsville, where committal and military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post No. 66 of Clarion.
