THE DEATH OF ORLANDO FIDLER
Orlando Fidler, probably the oldest citizen of Tippecanoe county in point of residence died Tuesday afternoon at 3:20 o’clock at his home in Wea township east of Spring Grove church of hardening of the arteries. Mr Fidler was in his eighty-ninth year and spent his entire life on the Wea. Had he lived until November 6, this year, he would have celebrated his eighty ninth birthday anniversary. His parents came to Wea Township from Ohio and at that time the entire township was a huge swampy wilderness. There was not a house of any kind to be seen. Their son grew to manhood on a farm there and up to thirty years ago was actively engaged in that work. He was twice married, his first wife having been a daughter of John Routh, of Lauramie. She died about sixty-five years ago. His second wife, formerly Miss Samantha Monihan, died fourteen years ago. Mr Fidler was held in high esteem throughout the neighborhood in which he lived. He was a Baptist in religion and a member of the democratic party, having held serval township offices. Three sons, three daughters and a brother survive. The sons are John, of Kokomo, and George and Joseph of the Wea; the daughters, Mrs William Williams, of the Wea; Mrs Arthur E Coble, of Jackson county, and Mrs Randolph Goldsberry, of Dayton. The surviving brother is Andrew Fidler, of Conroe. The funeral will be conducted from the family home, Thursday afternoon at 3 o’clock. Rev Campbell, of Colfax officiating. Burial Wildcat cemetery.
