Mary Favour Hazeltine, 94, died on Feb. 17, 2005, at her home in Scottsdale, Ariz. Born
Nov. 9, 1910, in Spuyten Dyvil, N.Y., Mary Temple Favour moved with her family to
Prescott, five years after the territory became a state. Her father, Alpheus H. Favour,
an attorney, later became a State Senator, an Arizona member of the Colorado River
Commission and an author.

A Prescott High School graduate, she received her BA degree from Mt. Holyoke College in
1932. Later that same year, she married Sherman Hazeltine, a member of a pioneer family
which was involved in the early days and later as chief executive of the Bank of Arizona.

In Prescott, Mrs. Hazeltine was a founding member of the AAUW chapter, served on the
library board and was active in the support of Sharlot Hall Museum and other community
endeavors. In 1957, the Hazeltines moved to Phoenix, where Mr. Hazeltine became chairman
of the board of First National Bank of Arizona (now Wells Fargo Bank), serving until his
retirement in 1977. Both she and her husband were active in numerous community and
philanthropic projects for more than 30 years during dynamic years of growth and
development in the city and the state.

Her services included chairmanship of the board of the Arizona State Children's Home and
membership on the St. Luke's Board of Visitors and the Phoenix Art Museum Costume
Institute, among many others. She was noted for her grace, wit and elegance and for her
love of art, music and literature. The lovely Mary Hazeltine inspired others by example
and by gentle encouragement.

Preceded in death by her husband in 1992, and by her sister, she is survived by her
daughters, Favour Slater and Cynthia Hazeltine of Phoenix; her granddaughters, Sarah
Slater of Maryland and Catherine (Mark) Heslep of Washington, D.C.; brothers, Alpheus L.
Favour and John M. Favour of Prescott; several nieces and nephews; and by dear, caring
friends at Westminster Village in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Private burial services will be held in Prescott. In lieu of flowers, contributions may
be made to the Desert Botanical Garden, 1202 N. Galvin Parkway, Phoenix, Ariz., 85008.

Arrangements by Messinger Indian School Mortuary of Scottsdale, Ariz.
