Alta Holmes Ennis, of Perkasie and formerly of Doylestown, PA, and Melbourne, FL, died Wednesday, January 7, 2009, at her daughter's home in Grant, FL. She was 90. She was the wife of the late Edward C. Ennis who died January 25, 2005. Born in Doylestown, PA, she was a daughter of the late Harris and Nora (Pflieger) Holmes. A 1936 graduate of Doylestown High School and a 1939 graduate of Abington Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, she went on to the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School to study operating technique. During World War II, she taught operating technique at the Michael Reese Medical Center in Chicago, IL. A homemaker most of her life, Mrs. Ennis was a member of the Village Improvement Association, Doylestown, and served on the Doylestown Hospital Board of Directors for many years. She was a member of the Perkasie Historical Society, and she was active with the Michener Art Museum, Doylestown. An avid golfer, Mrs. Ennis was a member and former Club Champion of the Doylestown Country Club. Her interests included playing the piano and organ, the arts, sewing, gardening, fishing and cooking. She also enjoyed knitting for her grandchildren and creating Christmas ornaments, as well as furniture refinishing. She is survived by four daughters, Lynette Ann Reichner and her husband Ronald, of Grant, FL, Barbara Jan Connolly and her husband Paul, of Prescott, AZ, Patricia Louise Linebaugh, of Sellersville, PA, and Alison Ennis Wright and her husband Melvin "Rocky", of Perkasie; a son, Edward Charles Ennis, Jr., of Florida; 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and a sister, Janet Holmes Linsenmaier, of Danboro, PA. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at 10:00 AM in St. Agnes Catholic Church, 445 N. Main Street, Sellersville, PA.
