Memorial services for Lt. John Dunski, 26, of 2302 Kemble av., North Chicago, conducted by Charvin post. American Legion will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow in the North Chicago Methodist church. Lt. Dunski was drowned with 22 companions when an army raft capsized March 22 on the Cumberland River near Nashville, Tenn. Lt. Dunski is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Dunski, of North Chicago; a brother, and a sister.
John was the 2nd child of Mike and Anne Turco Dunski. He graduated as valedictorian of his high school in North Chicago in 1935. His older sister Mary had started a Beauty Salon in 1933, but but 1937, John was running it, He appears to have attended college for at least two years, He enlisted in 1941 and rose to the rank of 1st LT. He was a member of HHC, 104th Infantry and training in Tennessee on Mar 22, 1944, when a raft crossing the rain swollen Cumberland River overturned resulting in the drowning of all aboard except for two. His body was not found for about 3 weeks after the accident. His brother Stephen George also served from 1944 to 1946 in the Signal Corp.
