Around 1856 he married Lucy Ann Helms, daughter of Henry Helms and Sarah Goodwin. They had ten children, of which only six lived to 1910. William immigrated to the U.S. in 1881 and his family followed in 1882.
Some of the children were George Thomas, Mila, Agnes, Mary, Franklin, Percy Gilmore, Irene Lelia, Emily, and Margaret.
William preceded his wife in death. He was preceded in death by several of his children, including Franklin in 1904 Boston.
