James Riley Duncan is the son of William Greenberry Duncan (1843-1917) and Meca Johnson (1847-1928). He married Nancy Emma King (1880- ?) on 21 August 1898 in Cherokee County, Georgia.

J. R. Duncan Dies Monday
James Riley Duncan, 83, died early Monday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Alton Holcomb of 27 Belmont Drive, Calhoun.
Mr. Duncan was born June 13, 1876 and is the son of William G. DLuncan and Meca Johnson Duncan. He was a member of Blackwood Baptist Church and a prominent resident of the Oothcaloga Valley Community.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Miss Emma King.
Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. George McWilliams, of Adairsville, Mrs. Bradley McIntyre, Mrs. Alton Holcomb and Mrs. Rayford Hall, all of Calhoun, and Mrs. Clay Moore of Adairsville Route 1; two sisters, Mrs. Monroe Brown of Calhoun and Mrs. Will Callahan of Rainsville, Ala.; one brother, Gus Duncan of Dutton, Ala. Five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the Blackwood Baptist Church with the Revs. Ralph Brown, Bryant Leverett and Howard Holcomb in charge.
Pallbearers were Hoyal Duncan, Thurman Duncan, Howard Kinman, Howard Johnson, Charles King and J. T. King.
