THE DEATH OF WILLIAM J DEHART
William J DeHart, a highly respected citizen of Stockwell, passed away at his home in that place on Saturday afternoon at 1:50 o'clock. His health had been impaired for several years and he had suffered a great deal from rheumatism. In 1894 he fell and broke his hip and five years later had the misfortune to break it again. Ever after that he suffered from the effects of injury and it was instrumental in causing his death. Mr DeHart was a son of Abner and Margaret DeHart and was born near Crane on March 26, 1844. He was reared on a farm and was married to Miss Alameda Anderson, who survives, on December 24, 1868. He also leaves one daughter, Mrs W. C
McCollough. He was a brother of Stephen O DeHart and of Mrs George W Kirkpatrick, of this city. Mr DeHart was a member of the Christian church and was one of its staunchest supporters. He contributed liberally to the erection and support of the church to which he belongs. He was a member of Stockwell Lodge #439, Knights of Pythias, and was a highly esteemed member of both orders. He was honest and was admired for his manly qualities. When he was told that he could not recover he accepted the news cheerfully and passed away with the resignation of a true Christian. The funeral will be conducted tomorrow morning. Short services will be held at the house at 9:30 o'clock and the remains will then be taken to the Wildcat church, where final services will be held at 11:30 o'clock. Rev A W Conner, of this city, and Rev J H Kevan, of Stockwell, will officiate. The interment will be made in the cemetery at the church and will be under the auspices of the Odd Fellows and Knights of Pythias. (Lafayette Newspaper, March 19, 1906)
