Sister Janet de France, School Sisters of Notre Dame, 91, De Pere, died Thursday, June 10, 2004, at her convent home. On Dec. 18, 1912, she was born Harriet de France in Green Bay, to Charles and Janet (Baenen) de France.

She entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame on Nov. 11, 1931. Her first Profession was on Aug. 10, 1934 and her Final Vows were professed on Aug. 10, 1940. She received her bachelor's degree from Mount Mary College and her master's degree from Loras College in Iowa.

Sister taught in Chicago at St. Paul and St. Margaret Elementary Schools. She also taught in Milwaukee at Messmer High School and in Menasha at St. Mary's High School. From 1971 to 1982, Sister Janet taught at Abbot Pennings High School in De Pere.

After retiring from Abbot Pennings High School, she tutored students in mathematics and also taught piano. Sister was celebrating her Golden Ruby (70 year) Jubilee this year.

She is survived by her friend and companion, Sister Mary Alyce Lach, S.S.N.D., the School Sisters of Notre Dame, including, Sister Sylvia Hecht, S.S.N.D., Sister Helen Hendricks, S.S.N.D. and Sister Ann Arthur Klinker, S.S.N.D; three nieces, Bernice Hayes, Lorraine Mausbach and Muriel Hermans; three nephews, Lee Mc Guire, Charles de France and Jack de France. She is also survived by other loving nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, and great-grand-nieces and great-grand-nephews; a sister-in-law, Margaret de France.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Samuel, Cyril, Lambert and Ralph de France; four sisters, Elsie Gerczak, Leona Mc Guire, Dorothy Karpathian and Sister Auxilia (Sylvia) de France, S.S.M.

Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave. from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday. There will be a Prayer Service at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Friends may also call at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 220 S. Michigan St., De Pere, from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Anthony Dolski officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove, Wis.
