Virginia M. Davis, 87, of 1401 Morris St., Sligo, died at 2:15 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, in Clarion Hospital following a sudden illness earlier in the day. Born Sept. 28, 1916, in Knox, she was the daughter of John and Ila Groce Meier. She was a 1934 graduate of Sligo High School. Mrs. Davis was married May 26, 1938, to Ben A. Davis, who survives. She was a homemaker and she and her husband operated Davis Fountain Service store in Sligo for nearly 15 years until 1971. She then worked part-time at the former First Seneca Bank in Rimersburg. Mrs. Davis was a member of Sligo United Methodist Church, where she served as choir director and pianist for many years. She also was a member of a 500 card club in Sligo. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are four brothers and their wives, Paul and Jackie Meier of Sligo, Merle and Margie Meier of Melbourne Fla., Dean and Rosemary Meier of Akron, Ohio, and Keith and Gerri Meier of Labelle, Fla.; one aunt, Twila Groce Stanley of Bessemer; many cousins, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her parents. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Varner Funeral Home in Sligo. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Sligo United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rick Russell, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Sligo Cemetery.
