Birth: Oct. 3, 1839
Death: Apr. 25, 1916

Member of signal corps with the army of the Potomac in the Civil war; promoted to colonel at the end of his service. He was a member of the famous Lincoln guard of honor which was organized the night of November 7, 1876, the night after an attempt was made to steal the body of President Lincoln. After the war he came to Springfield and conducted a wholesale grocery business for twenty-five years. He and his family later moved to Keokuk, Iowa and then later to Duluth, Minnesota, where he was the chief clerk in the offices of the Great Northern Express company. He died in Duluth, Minnesota, a few weeks after the death of his wife. IL State Register, Springfield, IL 4-27-1916
