Merton Crowl, a former superintendent of the schools at Plover, died at Otranto, Iowa, Thursday [July 9, 1931]. The burial was near Minburn. Mr. Crowl found it necessary to give up school work several months ago. He was troubled with high blood pressure. He is survived by Mrs. Crowl, a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Kane of Estherville, and a son, Spencer Crowl, who is in the west. (Democrat, Emmetsburg, IA, July 16, 1931)

Otranto, July 11 – Funeral services for Supt. Merton Crowl, who died Thursday, were held at the home this afternoon in charge of the Rev Mr. Sorenson. Burial will be Sunday in Minburn.
