Death: Jan. 1, 1913

Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Served in the Civil War as Captain and commander of Company F, 2nd Massachusetts Volunteer Cavalry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at the Battle of Cedar Creek, Virginia on October 19, 1864. His citation reads “Voluntarily led a charge, which resulted in the capture of 14 prisoners and in which he himself was wounded”. The prisoners he had captured were the first Rebel soldiers taken in the battle. His Medal was issued on January 10, 1896. (bio by: Russ Dodge)
