David enlisted in Company M. 155th Regiment PV (unit number 2145)as a private on 22 Aug 1862, with allegiance to the Union Army. He died in Camp Falmouth near Fredericksburg, VA on Dec. 26, 1862 at the age of 18 years, 3 months, 11 days. He served 4 mos. 5 days. The Battle of Fredericksburg, a Confederate victory, was fought on December 13, 1862. (He was discharged as a private with distinguished service). His remains were exumed Feb. 20, 1866 and brought home to the family burying ground and reinterred Feb. 26, 1888 beside his mother and sisters in Rimersburg, PA.
His Civil War index card with the PA state archives shows he enrolled 8/10/1862 at Rimersburg, Pa. He was mustered in 9/2/862 as Private at Pittsburgh. He had light hair and blue eyes. His occupation: farmer. Remarks: he died 12/27/1862 near Falmouth Va. of chronic diarrhea. Family links: Parents: James Craig (1803 - 1877) Jane R. Ferguson Craig (1806 - 1857)
