"Any one can be a father; it takes some one special to be a daddy......" I will always love you & miss you daddy.
Cecil Wayne Bumgardner was born October 11,1940 in New Albany, Mississippi to Amandia "Hazel" Bumgardner. His mother later married and so he was adopted around the age of 4 to Archie B. Cooper in Texas.
Cecil married the first time to Roberta (Bobby) Alice Hightower 23 Jun 1958 in Chandler, Oklahoma. To that union were born Robert Wayne, Carol Elaine, Cheryl Lee and one child who he took as his own Amy Beth.
Cecil married for the second time to Joanne Ruth Burtron Mangum 19 Dec 1979 in Dallas, Texas.
Joanne had a daughter from her previous marriage JoLynn Ruth Mangum who Cecil raised from the time she was 7 months old.
Cecil & wife Joanne owned and operated a dairy in Deport, Texas "Brookside Dairy" and then moved to Hugo, Oklahoma November of 1991,started a ranch and went back to driving truck as he did in his early years.
Cecil passed away October 28, 1993 in San Antonio, Texas while at a truck stop from a heart attack.
Surviving relatives include his wife Joanne Cooper and step-daughter JoLynn Mangum Cooper of the home.
Three daughters from his first marriage: Elaine Cooper, Sheryl Cooper, and Amy Cooper all of Texas; a son: Robert Wayne Cooper of Denison, Texas, his mother: Amandia "Hazel" Bumgardner Cooper of Ft.Worth, Texas; a half sister Elana Cooper Hamm of Ft. Worth, Texas and three grandchild.
Rev. Mike Armes will officiate the services Saturday, with burial following in Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of Mt. Olive Funeral Home.
Around 1983 his children from his first marriage dropped all contact with Cecil.
The only grandchild known to Cecil was Lacey Wynne Cooper.
Cecil always thought his birthdate was on the 1st but come to find out through both birth records it was on the 11th.
The only hint of who Cecil's birth father was is by a photo of his mother with child standing by a man of the name Jeff Sanders. Jeff Sanders and Cecil look very much alike. Jeff Sanders married in his late 40's from what I was told. Jeff Sanders passed in early 1993 in Mississippi.
Cecil Wayne Bumgardner Cooper namesake is from his grandfather Cecil Burnie/Burney Bumgardner who died when Cecil's mother Hazel was only around the age of five.
I just read a message from a grandchild of my dads and it was very way off. You know dad cut all ties himself and himself alone. I am sorry I can not help you in feeling any better but I do know for a fact it was not you. He did not even know you or any thing about you. The only grandchild known was only one. Dad made his choice of what and who he wanted in his life. He was very stern that way. He was a man you told you how it was and if you did not like it then you can just move on. Sad maybe to say but my brother Wayne would tell you the same. That is just how our dad was. No one made choices for him. He did every thing all on his own.
You have no room to judge a man you have never known. It does not matter now for he is no longer here. I respect my dads choices for they were his own. That side of the family made their choice and he made his. As for me I will stand by my dad.
