W. Ben Clausen, 66, of Dexter died Sunday, January 3, 1999, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines while recuperating from a recent surgery. Memorial services were held Wednesday, Jan. 6, at Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter, with burial in Dexter Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Kuhn Funeral Home of Dexter.
Mr. Clausen was born on the family farm south of Dexter in Madison County on July 27, 1932, to Richard and Ruby (Roberts) Clausen. He graduated from Dexter High School in 1950, and shortly thereafter enlisted in the AIr Force. He served during the Korean War and rose to the rank of staff seargeant. While stationed in England, he met and married Mollie Palmer in 1953.
Survivors include one son, Benny of Greenfield; one daughter Dyan Schaffer of Des Moines; one brother, Jim of Dexter, one sister, Zelda Paullin of Greenfield; 10 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Clausen was preceded in death by his parents.
