During the Civil War, he served as a private in Co. E, 6th Pennsylvania Militia, serving in the HOME GUARDS.

He appears in the US PA census records for 1850, residing with his parents, in Halifax Township, Dauphin county, where he listed his occupation as "carpenter".

Several photographs have survived on "Uncle Jerry" as furnished by his Gnephew, Harry Lyter Chubb in 1998, through correspondence with cousin Albert Lyter, of Halifax, PA.
Harry indicated that Jeremiah was a house and barn developer, and helped to establish a community water system for Highland Park, a residential section of Topeka, Kansas. This water system was known as the "Chubb Water Line".

He also noted that at Christmas time Jerry and his (second) wife Kate were generous with "goodies" for the neighborhood children.

Information also confirmed in THE ENDERS GENEALOGY (1740-1950), noting that Jeremiah and his second wife had (6) children.

Jeremiah was married twice:
First wife Sallie J., married on 29th Dec., 1868
Second wife Kate S., married 22 Oct., 1873.
