Betty Joyce Chilton, 81, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008 at Stamford Community Care Center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at Paint Creek Baptist Church with Rev. James Brigham officiating. Burial will be in Howard Cemetery under the direction of Kinney-Underwood Funeral Home.

Born June 16, 1927 in Haskell to E.D. and Ola Mae (Watson) Treadwell, Joyce was the seventh of nine daughters. She was a hairdresser and caregiver.

Joyce is survived by one son, Rudolph "Rod" Middleton Jr. and wife Neva Faye Carter Middleton of Cross Plains; one daughter, Betty Joan Middleton Murphree and husband Randy of Stamford; two grandsons, Clint Middleton of Eastland and Josh Murphree and wife Carri of Stamford; one great-granddaughter, Braleigh Middleton of Abilene; and two sisters, Oweida Weaver of Haskell and Mrs. Claudie (Jackie) Riley of Albany; special niece Debbie Gilliam and husband Larry, and numerous other nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Preceding Joyce in death were her parents, six sisters and one grandson, Wade Gentry Middleton,who was born in Fisher County, Texas on 14 Jun 1973 to Rudolph N."Rod" Middleton Jr. and his wife, Neva Faye Carter Middleton.

As pretty on the inside as she was on the outside, Joyce loved to fish, root for the Dallas Cowboys, especially Emmitt Smith, and for her favorite golfer, Tiger Woods. She enjoyed her big, close and boisterous family. She had a delightful sense of humor with a wonderful ability to laugh at herself.

Pallbearers will be Larry Gilliam, Josh Murphree and Dennis Rodriquez of Stamford; Clint Middleton of Eastland; Mike Stinson of Fort Worth, and Wayne Taylor of Brownfield.

The family would like to thank the staff of Stamford Community Care Center for their care and friendship for Joyce over the last two years. She loved you all. Thanks also to the Hospice of the Big Country nurses and staff for all the support and help over the last few weeks.
