Kathryn P. Carroll, 94, of Uniontown, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, Dec. 5, 2005, in Uniontown. Born Aug. 22, 1911, she was the daughter of the late William George Mattingly and Christina McGettigan Mattingly.
Kathryn was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church and lived in Uniontown, off and on, for 60 years. She was a 1929 graduate of Uniontown High School, and a 1933 graduate of the University of Maryland's School of Nursing. Although she was proud of her education, her roles as a wife and mother were the most important to her.
She will be missed by her six children: John B. Carroll of Brook Park, Ohio, and his wife, Helen; Patricia P. Carroll of Lynn Haven, Fla.; Lt. Col (Ret.) Terence W. Carroll of Las Vegas, Nev.; Ellen F. Quimby of Coralville, Iowa, and her husband, James; Anne H. Carroll of Lafayette, Col.; and Regina C. Carroll of Plantation, Fla. In addition, she has 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought a special light to her eyes. Other surviving family members include a sister, M. Teresa Bittinger, of Oakland, Md., as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold W. Carroll, on Sept. 24, 1980, as well as a daughter, Madelyn Dawn Carroll; her sister, Irene E. Johnson; two brothers, Owen C. and William G. Mattingly; and a son-in-law, N.J. Rottloff Jr.
Friends may call at the STEPHEN E. KEZMARSKY III FUNERAL HOME, 71 PENNSYLVANIA AVE., UNIONTOWN, FROM 2-4 AND 7-9 p.m. today and on Friday, Dec. 9 at 10:30 a.m. when prayers of transfer will be held. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at St. John's Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Uniontown.
